Aleppo Airport
Aleppo Airport is an international airport situated in Aleppo, Syria. This airport is also known as both a public and a military landing field. It is also considered as the secondary center for Syrian Arab Airlines. This airport began operating in the 20th century and was further expanded and improved throughout the years. A new terminal was then opened in 1999.
Since this international airport has been around for a long time, there are some historical events that took place here. The first highlight happened in 1918 when KLM airline completed its first air travel to the Far East passing through Aleppo. The second highlight ensued in 1930 when Amy Johnson accomplished the initial global flight navigated by a woman. The flight was from London to Melbourne passing through this airport.
Aleppo Airport is comprised of a terminal that combines both modern and Islamic structural design. This vicinity has 38,000 square meters and contains more than four floors. Every year, the airport sends off and receives an estimated 1.7 million passengers. The airport terminal ensures that it provides the services that a typical passenger will require or need while waiting for his flight or upon his arrival. It offers services from baking to tourism to health. It also has information offices and of course, a duty free shop.
The terminal floors are divided into a basement, a ground floor, the first and second floors and an external area. A passenger can find comfort rooms, stores and a prayer room in the basement. The ground floor is dedicated for arrivals and departure halls, airport offices, employee area and VIP clubrooms. Aviation and wing department offices, AIS office, restaurants, four jet way-equipped gates, duty free shops and the transit hall are located in the first floor. The attendant’s veranda and some restaurants and stores are situated in the second floor.
Some other public amenities that can be found in the airport’s terminal are tourist information office, postal office, communication office, insurance office, exchange office, automated teller machines, Syriatel mobile network customer service and Syrian Arab Airlines reservation and customer service offices.
