Aarhus Airport Guide

Aarhus Airport

The Aarhus Airport is a civilian airport located 35.9 kilometers north east of the city of Aarhus. Aarhus is Denmark's 2nd largest city which is in the region of Tirstrup. The airport handles over 600,000 passengers every year. Though the airport is mainly used for civilians, it contains a military depot and holds occasional training exercises for the Denmark Air Force, the last one was held in 2007.

Built in 1943, the Aarhus airport was used and built by German forces who occupied Denmark at that time. The airport was also used as a Cold War military base for the allied forces and the Danish until the year 1990. Improvements and reconstructions have been made over the years, including the current terminal passenger that is being used today, which was constructed in 1981. During the years 2007 and 2009, further improvements have been carried out and have made the airport into what it is today.

The airlines that operate at the Aarus Airport are British Airways, Ryanair and Scandinavian Airlines. They have international and local destinations such as London, Manchester, Oslo, Gran Canaria, Copenhagen, Stockholm and seasonal flights to Alicante, Malaga and Girona. The airport is also servicing other charter airlines on seasonal and private flights with BH Air, Jet Time, Sun Express and Bulgarian Air Charter.

The Aaarhus Airport is fully equipped to cater to the personal and travel needs of its hundreds of thousands of passengers that go through the gates of the airport every year. There are restaurants to serve passengers who are waiting for their flights. Cafes and other restaurants are on the second floor of the passenger terminal with overlooking views of the runways. Passengers can choose from a large selection of sandwiches, salads and meals and also packaged food that they can bring with them to the aircraft. The departure lounge offers coffee shops with pastries, cold meals and drinks.

If you forgot to buy your loved ones at home souvenirs from your travels at Aarhus, you don't have to worry since the airport offers a Tax Free Shop with a wide range of products that are sold much lower than those that you can find in retail stores. You can buy tax free cosmetics, fragrances, beer, wine, chocolate, candy, gifts, toys, travel accessories and even jewelry.

If you need to check your email, the airport offers free WiFi all throughout the passenger terminals. If you've also just arrived in Aarhus, there are several travel agencies that can provide you with tours and assistance on your vacation or destinations.

Persons with reduced mobility or have disabilities can also take comfort in the knowledge that the airport is ready to assist such individuals. You can find handicap access at the bus stop, car park and at the passenger terminals.

Since the utilization of the two runways are not fully used at certain times, flight training at the Aarhus airport is a great service that a lot of aspiring pilots would love to avail. You are given ample airtime and operate at the runway.

Getting to and from the Aarhus airport is also very convenient with both public and private transportation services that are at your disposal. There are even airport buses that are scheduled to meet every flight and bring passengers to the Aarhus railway station. Buses stop directly at the airport, if you are coming from the city of Aarhus to get to the airport. Car rentals and limousine services are also available. There is also ample space for private vehicles, with their 3 parking spaces that can accommodate over 1,300 vehicles at any given time.
