Agadir is one of the major cities in Morocco and the majority of its residents speak Berber as their mother language. According to CENSUS, the city has an estimated population of 200,000 as of 2004. The city is located near the foot of the Atlas Mountain and next to the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. The city is also an important commercial seaport and it is known to be the first sardine port in the world.

This metropolis is not your typical city; the town is bustling with activities along with modern roads, facilities and large buildings opposed to the more traditional and conservative structure found in other cities in Morocco. The city is also known for their agriculture and exporting of goods such as cobalt, manganese, zinc, citrus and other valuable metals. Since the city is near the ocean the seafood here is excellent, and what the city is well-known for.

Agadir Airport Guide

The city of Agadir is the capital of the Souss-Massa-Draa region in Morocco, and is served by the Agadir Airport, also known as the Agadir – Al Massira Airport. Many people say that the quality of a city’s airport tells much about the quality of the city and its people as well. It is a good indication then that in 2007, the Al Massira Airport served more than one and a half million passengers, and its tourism has continued to boom ever since, paving the way for a brand new terminal and improved systems. The airport now serves flights from airports in the United Kingdom and as well as in Ireland.

The Moroccan Airports Authority, also known as the ONDA, runs the Agadir Airport. Its runway can accommodate aircrafts as large as the Boeing 747.  Its parking facilities also have enough space to fit three Boeing 747s and ten Boeing 737s at any time.  Currently, the airport serves over thirty different airlines, with destinations ranging from Paris, to Moscow, to Stockholm, and even seasonal flights to Prague, Budapest, and special German cities. The airport has been consistently serving over one million passengers, both bound for domestic and international travels. It also serves as a stopover for connecting flights to other countries.

With a total area of 26,550 square meters, the Al-Massira Airport has one terminal that is enough to serve up to three million passengers every year. There is one large waiting room that is divided into two. One area is for passengers of national flights, which have no customs requirements, and the other area is for the international flights. This Moroccan airport is only one of six in which the Moroccan Airports Authority provides a special VIP service. This service includes access to the VIP lounge, easier process of check-in and luggage retrieval, as well as boarding assistance. The VIP access can be bough by individuals or groups for an additional fee.

It is said that although this airport provides only modest amenities, with seats being made up of metal benches, the real charm is in the staff of the Agadir Airport who will serve you with a smile and will try to make the whole experience enjoyable for you.
