Enjoy your travels and have new adventures in the largest city and capital of the Netherlands! Located in the western region of the Netherlands, the city of Amsterdam experiences an Oceanic climate (moderate and rarely hot summers and mild winters). This city is well-known for its canal system, the canals of Amsterdam or Grachtengordel. The canals of Amsterdam (17th Century) were made as a result of conscious and strategic city planning, to be used for water management, defense (in the form of earthen dikes and moats) and transport. Three of the four canals were mostly developed for residential purposes.

The architecture of the cityscapes in Amsterdam is based on the Renaissance artistry. The oldest area in the town is de Wallen (the quays) located in the main street, Damrak. The surrounding area and several parts of the town are Polders, these places can be easily identified through the suffix -meer, which means lake. The city's most important and major museums are built within the Museumplein (Museum Square). The city's 19th park, the Vondelpark, was built and named after a known Dutch writer. Zoos are also a tourist attraction in Amsterdam, situated within the Plantage Neighborhood and located just outside the canals of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Airport Guide

If you're planning to visit Amsterdam, navigating through the city will not be a problem. Fourteen km away from Amsterdam is Schipol Airport, the busiest and biggest airport in the Netherlands. Schipol airport is also part of the major airport transit hubs in Europe.Navigation within the airport is made easy and efficient because all three terminals of Schipol Airport are built in one passenger terminal. Navigating throughout the building is also made efficient by strategically designated sign posts.

Business services are also taken care of in conferencing facilities, plus medical services and health and travel matters can also be arranged. If there is a need for a passenger to call someone, there are several phone booths within the airport and internet can be accessed everywhere. The airport and their staff also offer assistance for people with disabilities.

Amsterdam Airport is a public airport situated in Haarlemmermeer in the Netherlands. It is owned and operated by just one company named the Schiphol Group. It is also tagged as the Airport City because it serves as a base for Vueling as well as the primary hub for airline companies such as Delta Airlines, Arkefly, Transavia, KLM, Martinair, and Corendon Dutch Airlines.

The terminal of Amsterdam Airport is divided into three halls that are interconnected with each other. The first section is called the Departure Hall 1 which covers both Piers B and C that are devoted to Schengen areas. The second section is called the Departure Hall 2 which is allocated for Piers D and E. The former is considered the largest pier with two floor level wherein the lower floor is dedicated to non-Schengen flights with gates D-1 to D-57 while the upper floor is for Schengen flights with gates from D-59. The latter is merely for non-Schengen areas. And finally, the third section Departure Hall 3 is for Piers F, G, H, and M. The first three are dedicated for non-Schengen areas while the last one is for Schengen areas only.

There are several facilities in Amsterdam Airport to give passengers something to do while waiting for their scheduled flights. There are various shopping areas like Duty Free and Schiphol Plaza within the vicinity. These shopping centers are not only sources of revenue but are also tourist attractions. Another place to visit is the Rijksmusuem where a small display of contemporary and classical art can be viewed. This museum is located at the airport’s annex and admission is free. Just beside the museum, passengers will have access to a library wherein books written by Dutch authors and translated in various languages can be found. Also, Dutch electronic books and music can be downloaded for free. This is best for passengers who like to know about Dutch culture and history.

And finally, the airport also has a rooftop viewing area known as the Panoramaterras. Passenger as well as the public can get into this place for free.  Oddly, there is also a mortuary situated in the airport, perhaps for repatriation services.
