Barcelona Airport Guide

Barcelona El Prat Airport, or plainly known as the Barcelona airport, is the second largest airport in Spain and the 32nd busiest in the world. With an international code of BCN, the main advantage of the airport is that it is conveniently located near the center of the city. It is actually just 12 kilometers away from the city of Barcelona. The airport mainly serves domestic, European, and North African destinations. However, there are also Southeast Asia, North America, and Latin America flights served here.

Barcelona airport actually has two terminals. The largest and the newest one is the Terminal 1, which was completed last 2009. Terminal 1 has 101 gates divided in areas A, B, C, D, and E. On the other hand, Terminal 2 has 48 gates and is divided into areas A, B, and C.

Arrival procedures at the airport are pretty much the same from other international airports. Once the passengers have alighted from the aircraft, he must proceed towards the baggage claim area while checking for the signs located all around the terminal. After baggage claim and immigration procedures, passengers may now freely leave the airport and look for transportation. Departing passengers also follow the same protocol other international airports follow.

Passengers are first instructed to proceed to check-in counters, then head onwards to security check and immigration, and finally to the boarding gates while waiting for boarding instructions. However, due to the heavy traffic in the airport, passengers ate instructed to check-in in advance so as not to encounter any hassles with regards to the flight. It is also advised to check the terminal number. Fortunately for passengers, the terminals are connected using free shuttles. For passengers departing at terminal 2, the modules A, B, and C as free shuttles from terminal 1 to terminal 2 would roughly take around 10 minutes.

Restaurants, bars, and coffee shops are located both in the arrival and departure areas of terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the Barcelona airport. Diners can have their choice of quick fast food choices to fancier sit-down restaurants.

There is Duty Free shopping in both terminals for passengers leaving the European Union. Also in the terminals are other shops such as jewellers, music shops, fashion outlets, and book stores.  For football fans, branded Barcelona Football Club products can be found in some of the shops at the airport.

The airport’s medical service operates 24 hours a day and a pharmacy is also accessible. Other facilities include play areas for the children, lost and found offices, business centers, and other facilities to assist the disabled passengers.

  • Excellent, efficient serviceWe were met by Kevin who was well presented and transported us without any problems to our apartment. He gave us a commentary along the way about Barcelona and Spain in general. The vehicle (Mercedes) had plenty of room making it a comfortable journey. Excellent value for the service provided. I would definitely recommend for Barcelona. Mary Hewlett - Dec 26 2014
  • Surprisingly fantasticI was hesitant to book with GPT. I had never been to Jordan before, but after some research their prices seemed too good to be true for airport transfers to Amman. I was so happy I took the chance. Service was fantastic! My driver was early on the pickup at the airport and exactly on time for my departure back. He was friendly, courteous, and an all-around professional. The car was comfortable and sleek and made for a relaxing journey both on arrival and departure. I'll 100% be using GPT when I go back to Jordan. Jeffrey Zimmer - March 20th 2015
  • Go Green in KLThis is the second time I have used Green Path for my transfer from the airport to the hotel (and return) in Kuala Lumpur.
