Famous for being the airport of the home town of the LEGO Group head office, the Billund Airport located 1.9 kilometers northeast of the town proper is one of Denmark's busiest air cargo center. It is also the 2nd largest airport in the country, where it is the main airport for international travel for the region of Western Denmark. It handles an average of 2 million passengers every year, with 1 million pounds of cargo. It also attracts a lot of tourist passengers due to its close proximity to the theme park, Legoland.

The Billund Airport was built in 1964 as the airport servicing the Lego Group of companies. Later on, it was handed over to the public government where the main runway was expanded in 1971. Over the years, reconstructions and expansions took place, with the new terminal opening in 2002 and the old terminal became utilized for cargo only. In 2013, the Billund Airport was awarded 4th Best Regional Airport in the World at the 2013 World Airport Awards.
