Changsha Airport Guide
Changsha is the capital of the Hunan Province in China. As the first country to successfully defend itself against Japan during World War II, it holds a special place in Chinese history. Nowadays, there are a lot of things to see here what would be more than worth your while. And with the emergence of this Changsha airport, the Changsha Huanghua International Airport, access to this modernized yet historic city is made simpler than ever.
Currently one of the busiest airports in China, Changsha Huanghua International Airport is located 20 kilometers from Changsha. As one of the busiest airports in the country, it has 2 terminal buildings that serve different flights to and from Changsha. The second terminal was actually just become operational last July 2011 as part of an extensive rehabilitation process that is still ongoing until this day.
The construction of Changsha Airport was first initiated in June 1986. After 3 years of construction, it was opened in August 1989. With 3 concourses, Terminal 1 covers an area of 33,000 square meters. An initiative to expand this airport first ran several years ago. Updates include the extension of the runway from 2,600 to 3,200 meters, the addition of new taxiways and ramps, the renovation of Terminal 1, the construction of a bigger, more modern Terminal 2, and the expansion of airport parking spaces. All of these improvements, with the exception of Terminal 1 upgrades which are still in progress, are now all completed.
Thanks to these improvements, the overall area of the Changsha Huanghua International Airport is expanded to a whopping 212,000 square meters of space. Because of the timely upgrades, the full expansion of operations is realized. As the 5th largest airport in China in terms of size, more than 12 million passengers passed by this airport in 2010. This practically signifies the strong significance of this airport in China in general, and the Hunan province in particular. Changsha airport is the main gateway to the Hunan province. As one of the busiest and most modern airports in the country, this airport is considered a major international travel hub.
