Cochin Airport Guide
Cochin International Airport is located in Nedumbassery. It is the first international airport in India built with no financial assistance from the government. It is currently the main entrance to Kochi, which is formerly known as Cochin. The Cochin Airport is the headquarter of the Air India Express and serves as the connection for most flights coming from and heading to Asian and Middle East countries. It is one of the largest and busiest airports in India.
For arriving passengers, the airport gives you easy access to railroad, port and the national highways. You can even find pre-paid taxi services.
On the other hand, the departing passengers are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. You can check-in earlier than your schedule and enjoy facilities like shops and cafes.
The Cochin Airport is centrally air conditioned. There are parking areas. The airport also offers internet access via Wi-Fi. Other facilities include book stalls, cigar/cigarette shops, x-ray machines, luggage counter, money exchanger, VIP rooms, first aid room, child care room, restaurants, and postal facility. There are duty free shops, too. In fact, the duty free shop at the international terminal is the first and one of the biggest in India. These duty free shops also offer Khadi clothes and traditional souvenirs. For dining, the airport offers a terrace garden lounge at the international departure airport. Another option is the sandwich counters in both domestic and international terminals or the restaurant near the parking area. The airport even offers a baggage wrapping service where your baggage is wrapped to be water-proof.
There is also a conference hall and a business center that gives you access to internet and machines for printing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing. One can also find three lounges in the departure area. The one near the Emigration Area is operated by Oberoi Hotels and is only for VIPs and CIPs. The other two can be found at the international terminal. The Executive Lounge has private seating and refreshments while the Earth Lounge has a dedicated bar and restaurant, shower and view of the airside.
You may want to take note of the immigration process at the Cochin Airport. Your passport and travel documents will be checked. There is also a computer confirmation and healthy check.
