Damascus Airport Guide
Damascus International Airport, coded as DAM, is the busiest airport in Syria. It is located about 18 miles south east of Damascus. It is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, although these operating hours can change during the holidays. Damascus Airport can accommodate more than five million passengers per year and has only one terminal. It has two runways that serve both domestic and international flights.
Shopping, Dining and Entertainment
The airport has two duty free shops inside the terminal that sells imported goods and souvenirs. More so, it also has a few souvenir shops in the departure area. For dining, the airport only has three restaurants and one coffee shop that cater to passengers waiting for their flight. Most restaurants and cafés can only be found in the departure area. There are no other entertainment facilities in airport except for the huge TV screen in the waiting area for departing passengers. Also, there are newspaper and magazines but for a fee.
Arrival and Departure
Arriving passengers at Damascus Airport are required to undergo a series of security and identity checks. Checked-in baggage and carry-on luggage are monitored and x-rayed as part of the safety procedures. Health check is also done as well as custom and immigration clearance. Foreign visitors are advised to have their Visa, valid IDs, passport and other travel documents.
Departing passengers are also subjected to a series of security and identity checks. Check in counters are open two to three hours before time of departure but check with your airline first. Allowable size and weight of carry-on baggage is also dependent on the rules of the airlines. However, prohibited items such as weapons, drugs, sharp objects, flammable and poisonous substances are not allowed in the airport. Liquids more than 100 ml, gels and creams are also not allowed in the cabin.
