Being an international airport, it has been catering to more passengers than other smaller airports, thus ranking in as the fourth busiest airport in the whole of Central America. It also provides amenities for use of cargo airlines.
The La Aurora Airport is currently undergoing a long-term development plan that aims to modernize its facilities. It also aims to expand so that it may cater to a larger number of flights and passengers. Although these improvements are still going on, the airport is already considered as one of the largest and most modern airports in the region. It opened up seven new gates on 2007, all of which are equipped modern amenities such as jetway bridges. The parking lot was also expanded to handle an additional five hundred cars from its original plan.
There are also two main concourses in this Guatemala City airport, known as the Central and the North concourse. The central concourse services larger aircrafts with the newer gate facilities. As for the northern concourse, it is equipped with twelve traditional gates and three remote gates. With these modern facilities, the airport is able to comfortably accommodate millions of people every year. Many travellers have reviewed it as one of the most efficient airports in the world in terms of speed of processing, as well as the wide area that is provided for the guests
As for other amenities that can be enjoyed in the airport, there are the customary ATM and cash machines, business centers, foreign exchange service providers, and two executive VIP lounges. These lounges offer free wireless internet, as well as a luxurious variety of dining options. There are also many dining establishments and duty-free shops that can be found within the airport. Once this Guatemala City airport is finished undergoing its improvements, it is sure to provide even better service and amenities.
