Hai Phong Airport Guide
Cat Bi International Airport is the official name of the Hai Phong airport. It is located only five kilometres from the center of Hai Phong city, and can easily be reached via public transport or any private vehicle within thirty minutes or so. The airport was only opened in 2004, with the airport code HPH, and has since been servicing flights to the nearby Ho Chi Minh City. Hai Phong continues to be an integral part in the economy of Vietnam, and a well-managed airport is central to its functions.
Hai Phong is the third largest city in Vietnam, and is a primary portal of goods and services. It is home to the Port of Hai Phong, which is one of the largest sea ports of the country and also one of the most important ports in the whole of Southeast Asia. To support the city’s functions, the Hai Phong airport was also developed to provide regional flights within the region. It is currently being used by two main airlines namely the Jetstar Pacific and the Jetstar Airways, although the former accounts for over sixty per cent of the airline’s total operations. There are also two main destinations that are being catered to by the airport, which are Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang. The closer destination of Ho Chi Minh receives three flights per day from this airport, while flights to Da Nang come to five trips per week.
Although the airport is considered to be smaller than most airports because it is meant only for regional travels, it is still fairly efficient in terms of various aspects. It is easy for passengers to find where they should go, and all processes are done quickly with minimal waiting time. Of course, travellers still need to arrive within the customary time of at least forty five minutes before the scheduled departure of their flight as they first have to get their luggage inspected. Check-in is also a necessary step to the process that takes only modest time given the number of counters available. There is little information about the Hai Phong airport, but it also houses the basic amenities of any airport such as sufficient waiting areas, service centers, and stalls or establishments for food and various items.
