Hanoi Airport Guide
Hanoi Airport (HAN) also called as No Bai International airport is the biggest airport in the north side of Vietnam. It is 28 miles away from the city center but accessible by shuttle buses, taxis and private cars. The airport serves domestic and international flights as well as low cost carrier airlines like Airasia and Cebu pacific. However, even though it is the main airport serving Northern Vietnam, the space of the airport is limited and can only accommodate 3000 passengers per hour or 6.5 million passengers per year. It has seven departure gates, two immigration offices and two concrete runways.
Upon arrival at the Hanoi Airport, passengers and guests are subjected to three checking procedures. First is immigration check, where arriving passengers are requested to present their entry documents as well as their exit documents. A valid passport, VISA, ID, boarding pass and other documents are presented before proceeding to the baggage claim counters where each baggage is checked and x-rayed. After the baggage has been claimed, the passenger is subjected to customs clearance to check for prohibited items and restricted goods. Same checking procedures are applied to departing passengers.
For departing passengers, security checks before reaching the boarding gates are done. Liquids, sharp objects and other flammable materials needs to be discarded or will be confiscated otherwise. For free baggage allowance, a seven kilogram carry-on baggage is allowed but should fit in the overhead storage of the cabin. Liquids, less than 100 ml are also allowed to be carried inside the aircraft. Boarding gates are open 40 minutes before departure.
Hanoi airport maybe small compared to other international airports but it also offers high quality services and facilities. It has a duty free shop at the departure hall, a business lounge for first class travelers and it has a variety of cafes and restaurants to choose from. At the arrival hall, a currency exchange desk is available as well as ATM machines and travel advice desks. Luggage carts, water dispensers, internet services and payphones are also available in the airport. Nowadays, the airport is being expanded to accommodate more passengers.
