The Valenca Airport is the main airport that serves the town of Valenca in the Bahia state of Brazil. The airport is one of the country's regional airports and mainly serves as the point of entry used by many tourists who wish to get to the island of Tinhare, where the very famous Morro de Sao Paulo is located.
The island of Tinhare, a major tourist destination in Brazil, has no paved roads and has unspoilt beaches – a favorite among many travelers and tourists in the country. Getting there takes hours if you travel by land, so the Valenca Airport is the most convenient and fastest mode of transportation to the island.
There is only one way to get to the Valenca Airport and that's through the Salvador airport. Passengers head to the airport and catch an air taxi to Valenca airport, where they can walk or catch a bus to the port and catch a ferry that brings passengers to the island of Tinhare.
Servicing small aircrafts, the airport only handles one airline that operates flights to and from the airport. The Passaredo Linhas Aereas is an airline based in Ribeirao Preto in Sao Paulo and is the only airline that offers flights from the Salvador airport to the Valenca Airport. It is also the only airline that brings passengers from Valenca to Salvador. Travel time is only minutes and the ferry takes 90 minutes to the island. So travel time to the island of Tiranhe from Salvador is about 2 hours.
Valenca Airport was established in 1948 and was renovated in 2000. It is located 15 km from the centre of Valenca. An airfield is present at the island of Tinhare itself but it can only accommodate small private planes.
The airport's runway is only 1,800 meters in length, so it can only accommodate small aircrafts. The civil government operates the airport and it can be used only during daytime.
There is not much that you can find inside the Valenca Airport passenger terminal. Aside from a small waiting area, an office, check in counter and restrooms, no other facilities are available. You'd have to get to the city to be able to avail of other essential services such as currency exchange, ATMs, restaurants, shops and hotels.
Since Valenca is also a tourist destination in the country, several hotels and resorts are available within and at the outskirts of the city. It wouldn't be difficult to find a good place to stay in the city if you wish to get accommodation before you go to the island of Tinhare. The best way to get to and from the Valenca Airport is by hotel courtesy, which you can arrange. If not, you can get public transportation or order a taxi once you arrive.
