Orenburg Tsentralny Airport
The Orenburg Tsentralny Airport is a public airport located 25 kilometers east of the city center of Orenburg, Russia. It is a civil airport and home to the Orenair Airline. It serves an average of 2,000 passengers each day, with 1,000 of these passengers headed to international destinations. About 400,000 people pass through the gates of the airport each year, which makes the Orenburg Airport a significant mode of transportation for the city’s residents and its visitors.
The airport is operated by FSUE “Orenburg Airlines” and has one runway, which is 2,502 meters long. Several airlines operate at the airport, which are Aeroflot, with flights to Moscow – Sheremetyevo; Air Astana, with flights to Astana; East Air with flights to Qurghonteppa; Orenair with several destinations such as Moscow, Dusseldorf, St. Petersburg, Dushanbe and seasonal flights to other destinations; RusLine with flights to Yekaterinburg; and Somon Air with flights to Khujand and Dushanbe.
The airport was built in 1930 with a special commission Dobrolet arriving by plane in a K-5 on August of that year. By that month’s end, a flight to Moscow had already taken place, with a 6-seater passenger plane. In the beginning, there were only 2 rooms available at the airport – 1 for the crew and 1 for the passengers. Reconstructions and improvements were made over the years, leading to its current status today. The airport received international status in 2010.
The airport terminal is modest with a few facilities and amenities available for its passengers. There is a waiting area for all regular passengers but a Business Class Lounge is also available. There is a separate check in and boarding for business class, as well as a private and more comfortable seating area. There are cable TVs, DVD Players, office equipment like fax machines and computers are available, as well as phones that can be used for international calls. Food and drinks are also served at the business lounge. A bar with spirits and other drinks is also available.
A meeting room and conference room is also available for rent at the airport for people who’d want to have a quick meeting right before or after they arrive. Audiovisual equipment is readily available for use, as well as food catering arrangements. The rooms can accommodate up to 20 people.
There is a store at the airport where passengers can buy basic food and drinks. There is no hotel inside the airport so you’d have to go into the city to be able find a place to stay. If you are coming from the city or other areas, there is ample paid parking space at the airport where you can safely leave your car as there is security that will guard the cars.
Getting to and from the airport is no hassle as there is a bus that takes passengers to the city and back several times a day. For those who want a private mode of getting to and from the city, there are taxis and car rentals available as well.
