The Pokhara Airport is the regional airport that serves the city of Pokhara, Nepal. Pokhara is the country’s second largest city, which is about 200 kilometers from the capital of Kathmandu.
Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city as it sits comfortably on the foothills of the famous Himalayan ranges. When the aircraft is nearing the airport, you get to see magnificent views of the Pokhara Valley and that of the mountain ranges. Three of the 10 highest mountains in the world can easily be accessed from the city, making the Pokhara Airport an important mode of transportation for travelers and adventurers planning to trek the region’s natural wonders.
Pokhara airport was established in 1958 and is currently operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, which makes it a public airport for civilian use. It handled its first international flight in 2011 when Buddha Air, a private airline in Nepal, travelled to the Chaudhary Charan Sing International Airport in Lucknov, India. An air travel agreement was made between Nepal and India, making the trip and route possible. It was also announced that flights from Pokhara to the Indira Gandhi International Airport will begin in the near future.
There are a number of airlines that operate at the Pokhara Airport and these are Agni Air, Air Viva, Buddha Air, Guna Airlines, Nepal Airlines, Sita Air, Tara Air and Veti Airlines. Destinations are mainly trips to Kathmandu, but also to Jomsom and Manang. Kathmandu is only a short 40 minute plane ride away, making it a quick mode of transportation for those who are just packing up their journey to take an international flight at the capital.
The airport only has 1 runway, with the length of 1,433 meters, making it accommodate only a small number of propeller planes and small numbers of passengers per flight.
Buying your ticket directly for the trips to domestic destinations is not available so you'd have to go to a travel agency to be able to book a flight for the Pokhara Airport. They have several links with registered agents so this should not be a problem.
Since the airport is rather small, not much can be found inside the passenger terminal. There is free WiFi that has good connectivity, a waiting area, check-in counter and restrooms, but there are no other facilities or amenities. You would have to go to the city centre to avail of ATM machines or a full meal to eat. And since there's not much to do inside the passenger terminal, most people spend their waiting time at the rooftop to view magnificent scenery of the peninsula and of arriving aircrafts.
There are taxis available at the airport that will take you to the city centre of Pokhara, which is only 5 minutes away. For the nearest place to stay, you can head down to Temple Tree Resort and Spa, which is only 1.9 kilometers from the airport.
Our prices are also consistently lower than those of our competitors. So what are you waiting for? Do some good for Mother Nature, do some good for your wallet, and book one of our Pokhara Airport Transfers today!
