Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport
Also known as Mayor Carlos Eduardo Krause Airport, the Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport Is located in the city of Puerto Iguazu. The airport is the main airport of the city and one of the important access points to the world famous Iguazu Falls. The Iguazu Falls is a major tourist attraction, generating hype all over the world for being one of the Seven New Wonders of Nature.
Located in the Missiones Province of Argentina, the Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport is a modest airport, which covers an area of 1,804 hectares. Operated by the Aeropuertos Argentina S.A. , though quite small, the airport is an important hub since it is located in a strategic position due to its close proximity to its international borders of Brazil and Paraguay. It serves both scheduled domestic and international flights.
A total of four domestic airlines use the airport, and these are Aerolineas Argentinas, LAN Argentina, Austral Lineas Aereas, and Andes Lineas Aeras. These airlines have local destinations such as Buenos Aires, Cordoba, and Mendoza. Aerolineas Argentinas has four flights every day to the capital of Buenos Aires and also provides international flights to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Chartered flights through private jet companies can also be scheduled at the airport.
Since the airport is quite tiny, servicing the city of Puerto Iguazu with only 82,000 in population, there is very little entertainment located inside. Basic facilities and amenities are provided but you’d have to go out of the airport for more of your needs, such as banks and a good place to stay.
The airport is fully equipped with amenities for special needs such as a wheelchair for people with disabilities, free WiFi internet access, and currency exchange services. There are two main areas that provide food for passengers and a coffee shop while you wait for your flight, or if when you just arrived. A newspaper stand is also available inside the airport for your basic reading needs. If you need to buy souvenirs for loved ones at home, there are souvenir shops at the airport, with items that are made by local craftsmen and made from local materials found in Puerto Iguazu. A jewelry and gem store is also available, and gift shops, as well. A drug store is also available, which is open 24/7. All these facilities and establishments can be found at the public section, at the first floor of the airport.
If you’re looking for a place to stay, you need to go the city to find the hotels since there are no hotels inside the airport. One hotel is conveniently located just one kilometer away from the airport and others are located downtown and at several resorts nearby.
The airport has an open air parking, where the first 15 minutes are free and a fee is to be paid for subsequent time.
Once you arrive, you can exit through the main hall where a good number of choices for transportation to take you to the city and nearby areas are available. A bus line, taxis, and other forms of transportation are available at your disposal.
