The Ukhta Airport is the main airport that serves the town of Ukhta, Russia. The town is an important industrial centre for oil springs in the Komi Republic of Russia, and supplies the oil refineries of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other major cities.
The airport is mainly used for civilian purposes, handling both commercial passenger flights and cargo from the country's capital to the town of Ukhta. Located only 5km from the city center, the airport is easily accessible by passengers from the city.
Ukhta Airport has one runway, which is an asphalt airstrip 2, 650 meters long. Publicly owned and operated by JSC Komiaviatrans, it is one of several airports being managed by this company that revolves around the maintenance, inspection, and management of aircrafts and airports. Among the other regional airports managed by JSC Komiaviatrans are Airport Syktyvkar, Intra Airport, Vorkuta Airport, Airport Ust- Tsilma, Pechora Airport, and Airport Usinks.
Ukhta Airport handles operations of a few airlines that offer flights to domestic destinations, and these are Gazpromavia, with regular scheduled flights to Moscow Vnukovo; RusLine with seasonal flights to St. Petersburg; Severstal Air Company with flights to Cherepovets and St. Petersburg; and UTair Aviation with scheduled flights to Syktyvkar and Usinsk.
Ukhta Airport serves medium sized aircrafts such as the L-410, AN-12, IL-18, other airliners of the same size, and all types of helicopters. The runway can only accommodate one flight at a time, with a 2-flight capacity per hour.
The passenger terminal is quite small but since it is located in close proximity to the town center of Ukhta, not having a lot of facilities is not a problem. There is only one floor to its terminal, with a parking lot located at the building's forecourt.
Among the facilities found inside the terminal is an information desk that can give passengers information on how to get to and from the city, tourist sites, hotels, banks, and other places of interest. There's also a Business class lounge for passengers who have business class tickets and a VIP Lounge for government officials and delegates. Entrance, check in and boarding, are separate and private, with a more comfortable area to wait in.
The airport is also capable of handling minors without an accompanying adult, where they will assist the child through check in, and boarding to the aircraft. A clinic is also available at the airport, as well as services for persons with reduced mobility.
There are no hotels within the airport complex but good places to stay the night are available in close proximity. Only 5km away are a good number of choices of hotels that are also considered to be close to the airport.
Car rental services can be booked in advance, where the car rental can be delivered at the airport. You can also order a taxi to pick you up from the airport, or walk a few meters to avail of bus lines that go to and from the airport complex.
