The Volgograd Airport is a civilian airport located 15 km northwest of the city center of Volgograd, Russia. It is the main hub of Russian regional airline RusLine and is operated by JSC Volgograd International Airport.
An old military runway existed under this civilian airport, which can accommodate 42 medium and large aircrafts and 91 small aircrafts in its apron. Volgograd, an important industrial city of the Volgograd Oblast is formerly known as Stalingrad. The city is known for its extensive physical damage and death toll for its resistance to be taken over by German troops during the World War II.
The airport had been used for military purposes until 1994, when it was opened for civilian use. It was founded in 1933, rebuilt in 1952 and revived in 1957.
The airport used to be the hub of Air Volga, but when it declared bankruptcy in 2010, RusLine took over and is now serving Volgograd with several destinations to other Russian cities. There's only one asphalt runway, which is 2,500 meters in length. The airlines that use the Volgograd airport are Aeroflot, with flights to Moscow – Sheremetyevo and seasonal flights to Sochi; Astra Airlines with seasonal flights to Thessaloniki; FlyDubai with flights to Dubai; S7 Airlines with flights to Moscow Domodedovo; SCAT, with flights to ABTA; Transaero Airlines with charter flights to Pathos; Utair Aviation with flights to Moscow Vnukovo; Uzbekistan Airways with flights to Tashkent; and RusLine with flights to Mineralnye Vody, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Yerevan.
The airport has ample facilities to serve its passengers. A hotel right at the airport is available for those who need to stay close to the airport. It has 52 guest rooms and is very close to ATMs, coffee shops and public modes of transportation. It is located inside the airport building, which is very convenient for anyone who needs to rest upon arrival.
A mother and child room is provided for breastfeeding mothers, children with disabilities and pregnant women in the 2nd half of their terms. A VIP sector has a VIP Hall and Business Hall, where passengers can wait in pleasure with the spacious and private comfortable area.
WiFi is available throughout the terminal, as well as airline offices, a post office, ATMs, currency exchange services and a medical clinic found at the end of the terminal building.
